How to get a PPA (similar to Provisional Application for Patent in USA) for free in most of the industrial countries.

Step 1 get informed

Please check the official Website for inventors in Switzerland regarding the whole procedure.
Step 2 prepare needed documents

Please fill out the technical patent documents according to this link official site. Please check also the samples on this site for assistance. The technical documents can be in english - so far no problem.
Step 3 complete documents

Now we come to the most important part - the application form. Please fill it as described on the site of Swiss Patenting Authorities using the downloadable form in MS Word.

The application form has to be in German, French or Italian language. If you need a cheap translation to German, please use our eShop and buy the translation and send us your English version of the application to translate to the e-mail address you will get after checkout the 'translation-service' from eShop.

Within the application you need a representativ address in Switzerland. If you don't have - please use again the eShop again so you can use our address for one filing

To save money - if you need a Swiss representative and a translation - book the 'package' on the eShop
Step 4 apply

Apply now for your trade-mark, patend or design, using the specific e-mail addresses provided on this page. Send them all the needed documents in one e-mail. For further details on e-mail communication to IGE, please check this site.
Step 5 you get the desired document ;-)

Now your application will be checked by Swiss authorities / IGE and you get a reply with your priority-date, which you can use for 12 month within this large number of countries (s. link). Now your time has come to sell your idea - we wish you good luck!
Step 6 don't pay

If you get the invoice from IGE - don't pay for it - you can't get fined or sued and you won't lose your priority date, but of course your case is closed and you are not able to make any changes or file new add-ons.

Why can't you get fined or sued for not paying? It's a gap in an official international agreement (unfortunately I found it only in German), which most of the industrial counties have signed. Details can be found at this link: link.
